In 2019, Jacob & Co. launched one of the most successful Astronomia releases. Considering the practical use and cost of Astronomia Casino, its production volume is surprisingly high. An important part of the Astronomia collection, it features a 10-minute rotating platform, a three-axis tourbillon, a magnesium globe and a rotating 288-facet Jacob-cut diamond. Jacob & Co. has pulled off a feat of design and technology, adding a fully usable roulette to an already functional combination. The module that operates its signature complication roulette has been inserted into Jacob & Co.’s new complication timepiece Casino, giving it a unique personality. The Casino case is inspired by Jacob & Co.’s original roulette timer, the replica Astronomia Casino. However, its size, shape, movement and structure are all new and specific to this particular piece. The 44mm case is crafted from 18K rose gold and has been thoroughly polished. The curved case, the steep bezel and the rounded sapphire crystal glass all form a harmonious line. It features four full and wide lugs, the shape of which evokes the curves of the black alligator leather strap. These angles and carefully engineered construction are designed to narrow the Casino’s profile and provide a more comfortable and ergonomic fit for wrists of all sizes.
One of the characteristics that the casino shares with its predecessor is the lack of a crown. Time setting and winding are both operated via bows abutting against the case back. So, from above, the casino looks as smooth as possible thanks to one important accessory: the roulette pusher at 8 o’clock. The pushers themselves are square and large in order to provide optimal finger contact. To blend in with the casino’s overall case profile, it is surrounded by a long crescent-shaped crown guard.

The pusher is the heart of the casino as it performs its signature function, elevated to the level of a true watchmaking complication. Casino is a real game of roulette. Once flat on the table, it becomes a completely random game of chance. The pusher pushes the wheel head which has 37 pockets, 1 green, 18 red and 18 black. The mechanical structure of the movement components relies on a set of extremely high-quality ceramic ball bearings. The grinding wheel head rotates fast with very little friction.
At the same time, a white ceramic ball bounced around the casino. It flies over the lower part of the dial and flange, which houses eight diamond-shaped deflectors. The randomization is at its best, making the casino a true portable game and not just a testament to the wearer’s love of roulette, chance or any other symbol they might see in a casino.

Gambling venue Jacob & Co. Casino was inspired by the high-stakes rooms of the Bellagio and the plush carpet floors of the Monte-Carlo Casino. The black PVD flange contains eight diamond-shaped deflectors designed to increase the level of variance in the game of roulette. The wheel-track flange, the small wall at the bottom of the upper side of the dial, is mirror-polished, like a real roulette wheel, and leaves a small space between the dial and the sapphire crystal. Spacious enough to allow the entire dial and wheel track to form one continuous unit, yet small enough to allow balls to stay down and end up in one of the 37 ball pockets.

While Casino is a familiar face to those who already know Astronomia Casino, the JCAM51 movement is a completely new creation. The Roulette module features the latest generation of basic movements with a power reserve of up to 72 hours, meeting the comfort needs of Las Vegas weekends. It is regulated by a flying tourbillon located on the back of the case.
Its frame features a new Jacob & Co. design, and its arms are sculpted and painted in the exact same way as the wheel heads. This black and red motif is also arranged on two application plates, which are screwed to the arched sides of the case back and act as winding and time-setting crowns. The numbers are displayed in the same order as the numbers on the opposite side of the casino.
