At Baselworld, brands are pre-released with select models to satisfy our appetites. These include Corum, whose limited edition Golden Bridge model was produced in collaboration with composer, arranger, orchestra and pianist Joachim Horsley.
Alien moves are rare birds. The reason is simple, it is more practical to create a multi-purpose, round movement that can easily fit into a variety of watches.
In 1977 Vincent Calabrese undertook a project to create a technical and functional movement that would itself become a design element. He brought the movement of the Golden Bridge to life, designing an innovative French rectangular movement with its inner workings on full display, secured by the Golden Bridge, named after the concept.
There have been several iterations of this strikingly powerful design over the years. The latest edition is a limited edition in collaboration with musician, composer and orchestra Joachim Horsley, who is especially known for his performance of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony in the Cuban Rumba style.swiss watches cheap
The limited edition is based on the Golden Bridge Rectangle, an Art Deco variant of the iconic Corum model launched in 2017, designed by Dino Modolo. This iconic in-line movement features a silver microstructure with a black finish that balances symmetry, transparency and volume. The baton hands are faceted and diamond polished. At 28,800 vibrations per hour, the CO113 movement is incredibly thin, but still has a power reserve of up to 40 hours.
The well-proportioned 29.5mm x 42.2mm case features short lugs and a crown at 6 o’clock. The surface of the sapphire case back is metallized with fragments of the score of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, which is very tactile. Corum offers customers the possibility to customize their watches, transferring their personal designs to sapphire crystal.
The Corum Golden Bridge luxury is worn by Joachim Horsley on a black alligator leather strap secured with a gold folding clasp.
It was released as a one-of-a-kind platinum work and was presented to the artist at the artist’s first concert in Paris at Les Folies Bergères. Corum has also produced a spectacular display case containing a miniature piano and a music box made by Reuge. It plays three melodies arranged by Joachim Horsley: works by Bach, Mahler and Beethoven are reinterpreted to rumba or Cuban-style beats.
