Patek Philippe Calatrava 8 Day 5328G New 192-Hour Movement

Patek Philippe Calatrava 8 Day 5328G New 192-Hour Movement

Measuring 41mm in diameter and 10.5mm thick, this Calatrava boasts an impressive eight-day power reserve and “perfect precision.”

The new manual-winding movement features instant date and day-of-the-week changes, powered by two barrels in series.

Both the case and buckle are in white gold.

Look at all the Patek Philippe releases for “Watches & Wonders” 2025 and you’ll see super-complications, gorgeous table clocks, the Quadruple Complication ref. 5308G, and of course a couple of new Cubitus models. But what I’m most interested in is the Calatrava 8 Day, a brand-new development from the Patek Philippe team that features a manual-winding movement and offers an astonishing eight-day power reserve — or is it nine?

Named Calibre 31‑505 8J PS IRM CI J, the new movement actually delivers more than what it promises on the box. It delivers eight days of “perfectly precise running” thanks to two barrels in series, and the dial actually displays an additional ninth day of power reserve. This means that the torque provided by the mainspring is stable enough during the first eight days of unwinding so that timekeeping is not affected. On the ninth day, while the watch will still run, its accuracy may be affected – this is indicated by the red part of the power reserve indicator on the dial side.

As for the other specs, the silicon-based Silinvar escape wheel and lever of the Pulsomax escapement originally came from Patek Philippe’s Advanced Research Program and has a frequency of 4Hz. It is surrounded by beautifully decorated, flowing bridges with thin, polished bevels that are not too noticeable.

In terms of the dial, you’ll notice that this Calatrava replica watch follows the style of its sporty counterparts rather than its signature dress watch style. The grained blue dial and sans-serif Arabic numerals complement the syringe hands, and the complex subdial at 6 o’clock integrates three functions. An aperture shows the day of the week, which, like the hand pointing to the date, changes instantly at midnight. The unmarked inner track is a running seconds hand, but to be honest, I can do without it – the whole thing is too complicated to read at a glance.

And in terms of case size, this watch is definitely not a traditional Calatrava. While you will find some classic elements, such as the hobnail pattern on the middle case, the white gold 5328G has a diameter of 41 mm, which may attract those who don’t want a dress watch. At 10.52 mm thick, this watch is not a behemoth, but it may not suit some people with tight cuffs.
